Heidi Talbot is about to start recording her sixth solo album with none other than Dirk Powell in the production seat. If you can take anything positive out of the pandemic it must be the new ground we’ve seen many artists exploring. Heidi is no exception, in her won words “So much has changed for us all over these last couple of years and for me, now feels like the right time to make an album of songs inspired by where I’ve been, right up to where I am now, exploring themes of love, loss, healing and hope. We have put together a team of musicians to bring these songs to life, some people I have never worked with before – taking myself out of my comfort zone and making space for new ideas and inspiration. I’m so excited to make this music.”
Dirk Powell is as familiar a face on this side of the Atlantic (Transatlantic Sessions) as he is on the other, and on his last album When I Wait For You, Dirk teamed up with some of the best Scottish and Irish musicians and showed us how to create some transatlantic magic. He’s the right person for the job alright, and Heidi brings an incredible wealth of experience to the table as her bio makes very clear:
She is equally at home in front of a Symphony Orchestra, a Performing Arts Center, a Folk Festival or even at the White House. She has also been nominated for Folk singer of the year and Best Traditional Song by BBC Radio 2, Best Live Act by the Scottish Traditional Music Awards and Best Female Vocalist at The Irish Music Awards.
She has shared the stage and recorded with Mark Knopfler, Graham Coxon(Blur), Eddi Reader, Idlewild, Matt Rollings, Swedish supergroup Väsen, Dervish, King Creosote, Tim O’Brien and Jerry Douglas.
Heidi recorded four solo albums while signed to Nashville based record label Compass Records. In the last four years, she has recorded three more solo albums/ Ep’s released on, Under One Sky Records and most recently has collaborated with singer/songwriter Adam Holmes to record a duo album of original material under the name Arcade. 2019 also saw Heidi record Christmas Album, A Light In The Dark with three of Swedens finest folk musicians – Sophia and Magnus Stinnerbom and Roger Tallroth. This led to a sold-out 16 date run of Swedish shows at the world-renowned Våstanå Theatre. Most recently, Heidi has co-written and performed on Matt Rollings critically acclaimed 2020 release, Mosaic which also featured Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett.
So while Dirk’s recording studio may be based at Breaux Bridge in Louisiana’s Bayou country and Heidi will be creating music with Louisiana-based musicians, I’m sure the results will be all the more remarkable for it.
To get there, she needs your support…she promises: “I will do my absolute best to send beautiful vibes out into the universe and create a soundscape on which to elevate you, to lean on or escape if/when needed.”
