Acclaimed singer-songwriter Adam Holmes returns with his eagerly awaited fourth album, Dreamweaver, due for release on 21st May and available for pre-order now. This is preceded by the first single, ‘Nature,’ which is available exclusively through Bandcamp and his own website. The accompanying video premieres on Folk Radio today, its dreamlike quality adding to the song’s depths and beauty.
Adam Holmes on Nature:
Nature is a song about the immovable force of time. It focuses on this concept through the theme of the birth of my daughter and the death of my father. I found that these two spaces actually held similarities in their unstoppable nature.
This is Adam’s fourth album, but his first solo record since disbanded his previous outfit ‘The Embers’ and was written after taking some time off to be a dad.
Adam says “Dreamweaver is a meditation on becoming a parent and the way that changes your perspective on your past. My relationship to my own parents changed dramatically with Rosa’s arrival. It was humbling to deal with the emotions that arose from the early days of parenthood. It definitely gave me more compassion towards my mum and dad’s efforts and choices. It framed their existence in a very different way, and I felt keen to explore that”.
Adam Holmes has featured extensively on Folk Radio and has seen his first three albums nominated for an array of awards, including Scottish Album of the Year (in 2014, 2017 and 2018) and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. His masterful songwriting and enchanting voice has seen him work with the likes of producer John Wood (Nick Drake and John Martyn), Simon Heyworth (mastering engineer and co-producer of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells) and two-time BRIT award winner Eddi Reader.
Dreamweaver is co-written with Ivor Novello nominated songwriter Boo Hewerdine (Chris Difford, Eddie Reader, K.D. Lang, Kris Drever); Adam says, “he’s the only songwriter I’ve ever really wanted to write with…I was surprised about how natural it was. We have a really good relationship socially, so it felt like an extension of that.”
