Lost Map are excited to announce brand new music from Shropshire-born, Glasgow-based singer, guitarist and writer of gorgeously bucolic torch songs Molly Linen. Released on digital platforms on March 31, 2021, and via Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in the month of April (backed with an exclusive remix by FOUND’s Tommy Perman), ‘A Lot to Give’ is the first in a string of new Molly Linen material set to be unveiled between now and the autumn. Recorded at all-analogue Glasgow studio Green Door, produced and mixed by Ronan Fay, ‘A Lot to Give’ unfolds one evening to the drone of an old air organ and a delicately finger-picked acoustic guitar. “An imagined conversation with an imagined person who lacks empathy,” says Molly. “A heart broken like a carelessly dropped vase.”
This was my first introduction to Molly’s music and the sparseness of ‘A Lot To Give’ really highlights her beguiling vocals, an enchanting single which carries over beautifully in Tommy Perman’s video. I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Molly Linen’s debut single ‘Away’ b/w ‘Over That Hill’ was released in May 2019, followed by her debut EP Outside a few weeks later, receiving acclaim from the For the Rabbits, The List, Monorail, the Glasgow Evening Times and Norman Records among others. Molly has received radio support from BBC 6 Music’s Gideon Coe and Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Roddy Hart and Soho Radio’s Pete Paphides, as well as featured on several high-profile Spotify playlists including NPR’s New Music Friday. In the summer of 2019, Molly Linen gave memorable performances at Lost Map’s Howlin’ Fling festival on the isle of Eigg, and at the Strange Invitation all-dayer in Portobello, Edinburgh.
You can also hear the track in our ‘Mellow Folk’ Spotify Playlist.
