How would you like your tea?
Black, black, black.
Milk…sugar…all black.
For his latest single ‘Milk’, also the first taster of his new album due late 2021, to be released via new label Square Leg Records, Jinnwoo (Ben Webb – Green Ribbon, Bird in the Belly) indulges us in an exploration of his fixation with nostalgia.
He tells us Milk was inspired by a text conversation: “text someone telling them I missed them, and all these heartfelt things. He text back just saying ‘Stop looking at old photos xx’. And he was completely right.
“I obsess over photographs or old letters, or emails. It’s glorious, and unhealthy. This song is about that. About how a part of us wants to sit and dwell, and we feed that part of us with photos, or old songs.“
I’ve always been drawn to more unconventional sounding music and Jinnwoo’s creations always seem to fit that wonderful bracket…it’s what I imagine getting a burst of oxygen at base camp must be like.
Milk is no exception…it’s a dystopian sea shanty fairground ride that’s blissful in all its curious wonder.
Let’s go around again.
Milk is out now via Square Leg Records. Label founder and record producer Charlie Andrew (Alt-J) says of the signing:
“When Jinnwoo reached out and showed me his new album I was instantly smitten. His incredibly unique voice sucked me in straight away and before long I was on a journey through some of the most gorgeous and curious songs I’d heard for a very long time. I just had to have Jinnwoo in the Square Leg family. I am extremely excited for the world to hear this beautiful body of work.”
This is one we are very much looking forward to.
