Following on from the release of her single ‘Once’, a song tackling inner-fears, vulnerability and naivety, Stockholm native Anna Leone returns again with an equally moving new single ‘Still I Wait‘, a projection of Anna’s own desires to stay inside that safer space inside ourselves despite those supposed enriching experiences out there.
Anna’s childhood is frequently described in the context of shyness and escapism – the quietest of five sisters she discovered a rich alternative reality through video games, sci-fi, DC and Marvel. While that’s not so unusual in this ever-increasing noisy world and something I have strong empathy for, she has conquered an incredible peak in getting this far with her music considering her own fears which have seen her in a constant struggle with debilitating stage fright.
As this single attests, she has a way of translating those inner personal moments into deeply moving lyrics that resonate so well. She has managed to capture the vulnerable essence of those thoughts in her performance which is no easy task. ‘Still I Wait‘ may be her strongest single to date; produced by Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Hurray For The Riff Raff), it would have been so easy to have let this song take flight with a building orchestral swell but instead, it remains constrained and vulnerable and is all the more beautiful for it.
Working again with Savannah Setten who Directed the video for ‘Once’, it was filmed on the Azores archipelago at an abandoned hospital. The lighting throughout this video is quite magical and entrancing as is the framing – making use of framing individuals through open windows as we glimpse them in personal moments often lost in thought and vulnerable…
wash away tears in rain, all my sorrows they remain the same…
The video is incredibly moving, as is the song in all its fragile beauty…’Still I Wait’ is also our Song of the Day.
