While Daisy Chute, an American-Scottish folk singer and songwriter, may be a new name to most, you may well have already heard her voice if you’ve been tuning in for David Attenborough’s documentary ‘A Perfect Planet’ as Daisy is the solo singer on the soundtrack. As well as featuring on many other films, she is also a studio session singer, having performed for the likes of Radiohead.
Recorded live by Seven Hills Films at Love Electric Studios and featuring Midori Jaeger on cello, we have the pleasure of sharing a stripped back version of her single Troubador Boy. There is a lovely sixties-folk-vibe to this song, and those subtle and sparing acoustics ensure that her voice soars and shines throughout. Make no mistake, this is a name you will remember the next time you hear that voice.
She tells us:
“Troubadour Boy is a personal song reflecting on the balancing act of having a career in music and committing to a relationship and potentially raising a family. It’s from the perspective of someone falling for a musician, only to discover later that his love of music (or his ‘wooden mistress’ as I say in the song’s lyrics) will always be competing with his love of you. It’s about the sacrifices we feel we have to make (yet hope that we don’t have to make) as musicians to pursue a career in the arts. At its heart Troubadour Boy is a love song, but with an unrequited twist only revealed in the song’s bridge”
Daisy is performing a live-stream ticketed show on Saturday 3rd April. Daisy will be performing with Midori Jaeger for this one-off live concert from her living room.
