Featuring Eli West, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Luluc, Ballaké Sissoko Feat. Camille, Tiny Ruins & a Singer of Songs, David John Morris, The Brother Brothers, Teyr, Jim Ghedi, Jon Boden, Mary Hampton, Rachael Dadd, Oddfellow’s Casino, Field Works and Cameron Knowler.
This week’s mix features a number of new releases:
Jon Boden, taken from his new album Last Mile Home – we have just interviewed Jon, he chatted about his new album, the recent Bellowhead reunion and the much-anticipated return of Spiers and Boden, as well as the challenges of wild swimming. Read the interview here.
Cornish songwriter David Morris, from his forthcoming solo album ‘Monastic Love Songs‘, written during a nine-month retreat at Gampo Abbey, a Buddhist monastery in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Teyr‘s new single Estren was released on St Piran’s Day – It is said that in 5th Century Ireland, St Piran was flung into the sea off a cliff with a millstone around his neck. He miraculously floated across the water to Perran Beach in Perranporth, Cornwall. Arrival over the water into a foreign land is a story repeated down through the generations, and one which Estren speaks to directly.
We also have music from Jim Ghedi‘s new album ‘In the Furrows of Common Place’, on which he brings focus to unrest, land enclosure and austerity. It is a stunning and remarkable album which we reviewed here.
We also have a beautiful track from Field Works‘ “Cedars“, a beguiling and quietly astonishing piece of work, where Stuart Hyatt’s overarching vision finds its perfect counterweight in an immensely talented and varied array of musicians.
A recently released live album from Cameron Knowler recorded live at the Eastman House (Houston, TX) December 29, 2018.
From The Cult of Water (2 April), a forthcoming release from Oddfellow’s Casino, featuring the voice of Alan Moore. A unique collaboration of words, music, illustrations, storytelling, environmentalism and the occult as David Bramwell takes an odyssey up Yorkshire’s river Don to unearth the secrets of our waterways.
