Back in June last year, Charlie Dore released her latest album ‘Like Animals‘. It was reviewed here by Mike Davies who declared it ‘her finest work to date’. Taken from the album, we have the pleasure of sharing her new lyric video for ‘Rivers of Cortisol‘.
Charlie Dore:
“Inspired by a panic attack I had while driving over the Golden Gate Bridge. This resulted in a 20-year phobia of driving on motorways, which wasn’t great for a touring musician. Eventually, after trying several strategies including CBT, hypnosis and even singing, with help, I overcame the fear and my life expanded again. There was also an incident involving a bumblebee, but that’s another story.”
Many of the songs on Like Animals address the imbalance between our modern lives and the slow pace of evolution that leads us to be so often led by our ‘animal’ brain.
Charlie: “You don’t need a degree in psychology to notice that however sophisticated we imagine we are, we haven’t evolved all that much. We’re still animals, it’s just that we wear suits and we know how to make gunpowder”
Like many artists who have had to put their launch tours on hold, a rescheduled launch show for ‘Like Animals’ is now booked for Friday the 25th of June at Kings Place, London, where Charlie will be joined onstage by long-term collaborator Julian Litman (Steeleye Span) as well as Gareth Huw Davies, Fergus Gerran and some other very special guests. Tickets are available now from https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/folk/charlie-dore/
