Armagh flute & whistle player Brian Finnegan releases his new solo album ‘Hunger of the Skin’ on 12 March supported by a top band and an equally exciting long-list of guests.
Brian Finnegan is a well-known face on the folk scene. As well as being a frontman for the groundbreaking band Flook for more than 25 years, he has also guested on numerous albums and taken part in many projects including The Finnegan McSherry Project and the much-missed KAN.
His new album ‘Hunger of the Skin‘ is released on 12 March via Singing Tree Music (STM013) and was written in March and April 2020 and recorded at home and in studios around the world. In Brian’s own words, the album was: “Inspired by the extraordinary events that began in March 2020 when the world hunkered down and the slow burn recalibration of life began; people swept off the streets, out of each other’s lives, each other’s arms. Hunger of the Skin is a collection of music in praise of the power of human touch, of shared mind, stories, music and dreams, of real connection, not virtual, and real embodied joy”.
The first released track from the album ‘Flow, In The Year Of Wu Wei’ was nominated in the Best Original Track category at the RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards in November 2020 and as demonstrated in the live video below, Brian has assembled a powerful and talented band behind him on top of which he has a long and impressive list of guests lined up (see below). This is going to be something else!
Other musicians on the album include Sean Óg Graham and Liam Bradley (percussionist), Ian Stephenson, Patsy Reid, Eva Roa Flores, Ashley Hoyer, Ollin Roa Finnegan, Sarah Allen, Niamh Dunne, Morna Finnegan, Gearóid MacLochlainn, Connor McCreanor, Anton Boiarskikh, Paul Dunlea, Sheema Mukherjee, John Joe Kelly, Leon Hunt, Melvin Iffil, Ed Boyd, Joseph Carmichael, Boris Grebenshikov, Ant Romero, Tony Donnelly and Colum Sands.
