This week’s show is filled with new and forthcoming releases, featuring:
A double helping from Myles Cochran‘s Unsung, a Featured Album of the Month (reviewed here + Track by Track feature here) – elegant, nuanced music that has been finely crafted and richly woven.
A new single from Bill Callahan & Bonnie “Prince” Billy (a Leonard Cohen cover no less) featuring David Grubbs.
A track from the new double A-side single from Ye Vagabonds: ‘I’m a Rover and The Bothy Lads’ which we premiered the video for here.
Las Lloronas a sparkling, spirited Brussels-based trio that merges acoustic folk and world music, songs -sung in a variety of languages -and instrumentals, with some subtly interwoven slam-style or hip hop poetry (Soaked is out on 26 Feb via Muziekpublique) – https://laslloronasmusic.bandcamp.com/
Buck Curran‘s new release, featuring a live session (mostly improvised) with electric guitar and upright acoustic piano. This is Buck’s first official release with one of his main musical collaborators in Italy, keyboardist Jodi Pedrali. The session was originally pre-recorded for Jesse Jarnow’s WFMU show which originally aired 23 November. Get it on Bandcamp here.
From The Hanging Stars new single (to be released exclusively through Bandcamp March 5th 2021) – I’ve featured the b-side for which the band dug deep in their archives and happily uncovered the flute-lead psychedelic folk jam ‘Apples of Red’ recorded with Jimmy Robertson (Depeche Mode, Last Shadow Puppets) in 2016. Keep an eye on their Bandcamp nearer the release: https://thehangingstars.bandcamp.com/
Plus new releases from Nashville born and raised but longtime LA resident, Sunny War who recently announced her new album, Simple Syrup, coming March 26, 2021. And from the acclaimed Canadian Songwriter Justin Rutledge we have a track from his new album Islands set for release March 26th.
And finally – as recently featured on Folk Radio – Fruit Bats, Yasmin Williams, Forty Elephant Gang, Thirty Pounds of Bone, Diane Cluck w/ Anders Griffen, Lael Neale, Ryan Dugré, Tele Novella, BRÍDÍN.
