February Sounds is the latest EP offering from UK and Ireland based musicians Laura Cannell and Kate Ellis. This is their second EP in a twelve-part series project THESE FERAL LANDS – A Year Documented in Sound and Art.
Their first EP in the series, January Sounds was released at the end of last month and accompanied by a film for EP track Sea Tower by Laura Sheeran which you can watch below:
Of February Sounds, they tell us that it was created with no discussion or explanation between each musician and explores the true feelings of the moment expressed as spontaneous, untouched improvisations with raw emotion. The music remains largely unedited and settles somewhere between stark beauty and glowing embers. A new world to immerse ourselves in, while our immediate geographies stay the same.
“Meeting each other has inspired us to create new music that reflects the optimism, the change and also strangeness which has affected both of our working lives. This project is both a sonic and visual diary, and a long distance call and response capturing a moment in time.” LC & KE 2021
Listen to The Bellowing…
Leather bellows creak and wheeze, as they breath life into the wood burner in the corner of the wooden shed on the Essex coast. The February fire crackles and spits setting the scene for the music that follows. The Bellowing is recorded in Kate’s shed and Laura’s thatched cottage.
A film will follow soon which can be watched via Laura’s Youtube Channel here.
