In time for Bandcamp Friday, Diane Cluck has released a 6-track digital album featuring six tracks recorded live at various venues during her first US tour in 2008 with Anders Griffen, a drummer whose playing she describes as painterly and melodic which gave new lives to her songs. During the tour Eric Lippe travelled with them, documenting the trip through film, video, and audio recordings from which this release is taken.
This symbiotic musical relationship is especially apparent on Sandy Ree from her 2003 album Oh Vanille / Ova Nil and Greyskulls / Mystery Over Mind, the latter from 2005’s Countless Times. For me, the highlight is A Phoenix & Doves, also from Countless Times, on which Griffen and Cluck call to mind You Follow Me, the 2007 collaborative album between American singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia and Australian drummer Jim White (Dirty Three, Xylouris White).
