Championed by the likes of Sam Lee for channelling so many different stories and styles into her music and cello playing, Francesca Ter-Berg is to release her debut EP In Eynem on Brighton’ Phantom Limb record label on 16 April. Many of you may already be familiar with her via the duo Fran and Flora, alongside Flora Curzon.
Francesca is a multi-disciplinary artist, known for her unique cello playing style, she is a specialist in Klezmer music, a songwriter, composer, ethnographer and improviser.
Taken from her EP, listen to the track Wtybcrechk below, one of two electronic recordings on the EP:
In Eynem straddles the worlds of live processing, improvisation and traditional folk song. Weaving together fragments of field recordings, samples and beats with winding cello melodies and tunes from the Yiddish and Sinti Manouche traditions, the EP is a mesmeric first peek into the cellist’s recorded solo works.
