William the Conqueror have announced the release of their new album Maverick Thinker set for release on 5th March 2021 via Chrysalis Records. The announcement was accompanied with the release of lead single ‘Quiet Life’…
Ruarri Joseph: “With Quiet Life, we wanted to step outside the sound of the trio and build some walls, add some layers for this one. It’s a trippy, fuzzy wander down someone else’s memory lane, so we went cinematic.”
It’s a track that really blossoms and carries you along…blissful vibes from a band that’s clearly developing their sound…maybe helped by that West Coast air and we’re not talking the West Country…
While the songs may have been written in the English countryside, the vision for this album was big, with Maverick Thinker being recorded in LA (alongside producer Joseph Lorge) at the legendary Sound City Studios right ahead of last year’s March lockdown, the results hold great promise.
At the tail end of 2020, William The Conqueror quietly launched a podcast series, written and narrated by Ruarri. They’re calling it a podcast, but really it’s an audio book. A fictional (quarter autobiographical?) account of a musician trying to make ends meet, trying to be seen and to be acknowledged, and trying harder still not to care. Except of course he does care otherwise why bother trying? And try he does. It’s funny, wise, daft, endearing, and often melancholy. Charmingly naïve and wincingly relatable. It’s a fun listen, and whilst it’s not devised as an accompaniment to the music (nor vice versa), it’s a fine package by a fiercely creative group. One informs the other, without planning to inform either. You’ll find it wherever you’d usually find your podcasts, and you should queue it up in haste.
