Big Thief’s Buck Meek is set to release his new album, Two Saviors next Friday, 15th January. Today, he shares his new single/video, “Candle,” which was co-written with Adrianne Lenker.
The accompanying video was shot and edited by Riley Engemoen and consists of footage from the studio.
“I was making my escape, when the siren’s song caught me a mile up the road,” says Buck. “My nose started bleeding by the second note, so I lit a candle to keep moving. I may have died and woke in heaven’s motel, with a telephone seashell at the bedside. It rang in waves and waves spoke, and waves heard through me.”
Two Saviors is decribed as a cathartic, naked confession of heartbreak, resiliency, and enchantment.
The band, featuring Adam Brisbin (guitar), Mat Davidson (bass, pedal steel, fiddle), Austin Vaughn (drums), and Buck’s brother Dylan Meek (piano, organ), set up in a Victorian house one block from the Mississippi River and worked within these limitations, encouraging every recording to be imbued with the living, intuitive, and human energy of a first take.
