Delve into Rebel Matters, a bi-monthly podcast for and with activists, artists, and scallywags, presented by Ainle Ó Cairealláin, a West-Belfast native now based in Cork city, and produced by sound artist/filmmaker Vicky Langan.
New episodes are uploaded every second Friday and in today’s episode, the 88th in the series, Ainle speaks to Ian Lynch of the band Lankum, and Fire Draw Near Podcast. Expect to hear about the fantastical world of Fighting Fantasy role-playing gamebooks that Ian has been a fan of since he was a young boy, as well as discussions about chance, choices, and the role that mythologies play in helping people make sense of the world and their place in it. Listen out for an exclusive preview of Ian’s new solo dungeon synth project!
Ainle: “The Rebel Matters Podcast started in 2017 as a side project to building ACLAÍ, a personal training business in Cork city. It came from the desire to work on something creative outside of the health, fitness, or sports performance world.
We have always loved speaking to people and hearing their stories, and Rebel Matters started out as the perfect opportunity to do that. Now it has evolved to the level where we are giving people who have great stories to tell the opportunity to share them with our audience and highlighting perspectives that might not get the coverage they deserve in mainstream media.
When the pandemic struck, keeping the podcast on the road personally gave us an ongoing social outlet through recording the episodes on Zoom, and it seems that the show was a source of comfort and company for people during a very strange and socially isolating time, judging by the kind messages we have received from our listeners and Patrons over the last 9 months.
We are very excited to get stuck into the interviews and episodes of 2021 that are already shaping up to be a combination of chats with fascinating guests, discussions on current social issues, deep dives down the rabbit holes of music and art, and the occasional solo run episode.”
Previous Rebel Matters episodes can be heard on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play, YouTube, TuneIn, and anywhere where podcasts are usually found online.
Rebel Maters promote the show on their Twitter and Instagram channels and Patrons of the show are given early access to the episodes.
