Last month, “Keeps Me Running”, the new single from New Orleans-based singer, songwriter and musician Esther Rose was our Song of the Day, the release of which was timed with the announcement of her signing to Full Time Hobby.
Today, she has announced the release of How Many Times on March 26th Via Father/Daughter Records & Full Time Hobby. The album, which was written over the course of two years—including three moves, the end of a relationship, and countless tour dates—is described as an album symbolizing an awakening. Intentionally or not, this symbology is reflected in the video for the title track which finds her walking through a series of dreamlike incidences and her lack of response to events feels less like one of numbness and more like she’s enveloped in some sort of inner-wisdom and a conscious blissful detachment.
Whether she has got it all figured out or not, this is such a strong single with gorgeous harmonies and some great moments including fiddle highlights from Lyle Werner and lap steel from Matt Bell (joined by Max Bien Kahn on electric guitar, Dan Cutler on upright bass, Cameron Snyder on drums)…there’s so much to love about it.
How Many Times is our Song of the Day.
Talking about she says Dean Johnson, Faustina Masigat, and Kiki Cavazos serve as primary influences, describing them as: “…the holy trinity of songwriter magic, and when I listen to them I feel like I can explore my own heartache.”
Her honest and open approach to songwriting and her delivery – credits going to co-producer Ross Farbe for stereo pop glow, are sure to win over many.
