Last year, Edd Donovan & The Wandering Moles released Guardians of our Time which was one of our Featured Albums of the Month as well as one of our Best Albums of 2019. In his review of the album Danny Neill concluded:
I believe you can always hear the difference between music that had to be written and that which is written to order. Edd Donovan’s work belongs firmly in the former, these songs have solid foundations and were simply waiting for someone with a visionary radar to bring them into the world. So, for the time being, the man remains a social worker. However, creating music is indisputably in his blood, it’s his true calling. I sincerely hope there comes a day when he can dedicate all his time to developing his craft. This album is one more giant step towards that day; ‘Guardians Of Our Time’ is a modern-day folk song for people with a taste for beauty, adventure, nature and wonder. His best album yet.
Despite Fell Like Snow being a new festive single, it is in fact one of Edd’s earliest songs. It’s been a favourite in his live set but never formally released until now. Edd has re-arranged it for Christmas 2020. It’s a short, festive celebration of the human spirit packaged in a 1 minute 42 second track which was recorded at Edd’s home during lockdown.
Edd’s trademark lyrics are particularly poignant and appropriate to the challenges we’ve all faced in of 2020. A champion of community spirit in the face of adversity; an acknowledgement of the huge impact on mental health this year has had, but a gratitude for the kindness of friends and strangers.
Edd says, “‘Fell Like Snow’ is a song I wrote many years ago. I’ve always referred to it as the shortest, yet sweetest, song I’ve ever written. We’ve contemplating releasing in the past but it has never quite found its place. Working in mental health this year, means I’ve witnessed first hand the impact of the pandemic, the lyrics of this song really bear witness to that but with a positive message of hope”.
We totally agree…
Fell Like Snow Lyrics
A year ago I think has passed
(Oh how the time moved slowly)
The shadow this tragedy did cast
Is still very much upon me
But you came through and changed the world around me
The words you spoke they fell like snow and gathered all around me
There were faces in the clouds
There were faces on the street
They were laughing and talking so loudly
I was living a lie, I was breathing too fast
I was sad, lost and I was lonely
But you came through and changed the world around me
The words you spoke they fell like snow and gathered all around me
The track will be available to download on Edd Donovan and The Wandering Moles’ Bandcamp for £1 on 10th December 2020 and will be available on all the usual streaming services.
