On ‘Home’, the new single from singer songwriter Millar Jukes, he wastes no time in opening his soul. After a short musical intro, he asks “Tell me, have you ever, found love in a bottle, drowned all your sorrows in whisky or wine?”. Far from being a desolate forlorn cry of despair, the song soon changes in momentum, turning from an intimate stripped-back opening to an impassioned full-powered declaration about the power of love in keeping your heart strong. He captures so much in that short space of time that he leaves no time to dwell, you’ve just got let yourself be swept along on his rapturous optimism and it’s a great ride.
Talking about the single, Jukes explains, “its about feeling lost in life and feeling heavy with anxiety as your life hasn’t turned out the way you wanted it to until you find that one person who picks you up and makes life worth living.”
At times reminiscent of the early music of The Low Anthem or even Ray Lamontagne, this new single is sure to get a lot of love.
Millar Jukes is originally from Scotland but now resides in Melbourne, Australia. His last two singles – Fire and Fangs – have already gained over 100,000 streams on Spotify and Home looks set to follow suit. Whilst 2020 has temporarily halted Jukes’ dynamic live performances with his six-piece backing band, he has spent the last eighteen months recording his dazzling debut album with Lachlan Bryan and Damien Cafarella, which you can expect to hear in early 2021.
Home is out on 4th December 2020.
