This week’s Folk Show is an extra long one…just under an hour and 45 minutes long, it includes a number of tracks from Home Is Where The Art Is: 15 Years of Reveal Records, the first label compilation from Reveal Records (we interviewed founder and label owner Tom Rose here).
Kicking the show off we have the cross-Border Folk/Americana band The Magpie Arc (Nancy Kerr, Martin
Simpson, Adam Holmes and producer Tom A Wright) with a track from their second release EP2.
Some of you may have caught the beautifully written piece from Ana Silvera on her latest offering ‘Light, Console Me’ (read it here), it was impossible not to include a track here, which fits perfectly between numbers from Aidan O’Rourke and Jon Redfern.
There’s also a selection from Sounds Like Knockengorroch 2020, a fantastic compilation featuring 20 tracks from artists who performed at Virtually Knockengorroch – an interactive Knockengorroch festival livestream held in May 2020 (you can read the review of the album next week) – It includes Ewan McLennan‘s Roll On, which we premiered here.
I’ve also included a number of tracks from some of my favourite albums from Raelach Records whose latest album Various Artists: Rogha Raelach Volume 1 we reviewed here.
We also have new and forthcoming releases from Jim Ghedi, Catfish Keith, Norrie MacIver And The Glasgow Barons (read the review), Leveret (reviewed here), Andy Irvine (from Old Dog Long Road Vol 2) and Lau‘s new Folk Songs EP.
While maybe not a household name on the national circuit. North East based fiddle player and teacher Paul Ruane was a big influence upon a generation of up and coming young musicians. The album ‘Sound’ reflects Paul’s love of traditional music and his personal interpretations, capturing performances from 2012 until his untimely death in 2016.
