Tomorrow sees the release of ‘Life Lives Inside‘, the new single from London born and bred, Flo Perlin and Pilgrims’ Dream. The duo met at an open mic 5 years ago, at a pivotal time in their lives. Both were suffering with chronic illnesses and through their friendship found meaning, which is reflected in the music they write together.
A singer-songwriter with Iraqi and Belarusian heritage, Flo grew up surrounded by an incredibly diverse range of music which has influenced her own personal and musical landscape ever since. Having busked around the Middle East, USA and Europe and toured around the UK, in 2019 Flo won a songwriting mentorship with The Nest Collective which led her to support artists such as Tom Speight, Peggy Seegar and Sam Lee.
Pilgrims Dream is the project of singer-songwriter Rob Ouseley, a former Marine. With over 100,000 streams on Spotify, and a finalist in the American Songwriting awards, he has played gigs and festivals all over the UK and Ireland and sold out a headline show in London just before lockdown.
About Life Lives Inside
This song started with Flo Perlin and Pilgrim’s Dreams, playing music in Flo’s living room on a rainy day. Amidst the current societal turbulence, we found solace in writing this story. The imagery came to our minds subconsciously as we explored the melodies and themes of uncertainty that we had spent many hours discussing. The connection between the human and the bird represented the hope that we felt was missing from the current discourse. The sea represented the increase in isolation, the relationships lost and gained and the significance of how just one simple connection can give one hope.
When Flo contacted Folk Radio UK and we first heard the song, it made an immediate impression – that vastness of the sea and being adrift is enmeshed in the very fabric of the song, a feeling accentuated by the lovely sway of the music. Like life, that vastness can be daunting and it’s a constant reminder that we all need hope, however small that may at first appear.
Life Lives Inside is out tomorrow – 6th November
