This autumn, Oxford Contemporary Music are delighted to present ‘Live From Wytham Woods’, with two enthralling musicians performing among the ancient woodland of Wytham Woods. Bristol based folk and lo-fi musician Rachael Dadd will perform in the afternoon shade of autumnal trees, and as the night draws in, drummer/composer Jas Kayser will play to the beautifully lit backdrop of these majestic woods. The events will take place on Saturday 17th October 2020 with a live audience (if restrictions allow) and a live stream for online audiences.
Wytham Woods, situated just outside of Oxford, is a site of “special scientific interest”, and is one of the most researched pieces of woodland in the world. This event will be the first music event in that part of the Woods.
Described as “one of the most talented, wise, prolific and important women of our times” (Kate Stables of This is the Kit), contemporary musician Rachael Dadd weaves her delicate vocal and folk-pop style with the issues of our times. Collaborators on her last album Flux included Jim Barr (Portishead), Kate Stables and Rozi Plain of This Is The Kit, and Marcus Hamblett (Villagers, Laura Marling). For the Wytham Woods performance, she’ll be performing with a 4 piece band.
Paiste cymbals and natal drums artist Jas Kayser drew her original sound from the common grounds between jazz and afro-beat. Her debut EP Unforced Rhythm of Grace gained attention and support from Jamie Cullum, BBC3, Jazz FM and the wider London jazz scene. Her line up for Wytham Woods will include sax, trumpet, keys and bass.
Lauren Spiceley, OCM’s Programme Producer said:
“When it became clear that outdoor concerts were the way to go, I was really keen to explore some of the amazing and unique places around Oxford. Wytham’s ancient woodland will bring a whole world of meaning and atmosphere – it will be a one-off experience of these artists. It’ll be a really special experience, whether you’re joining us in person or through your digital portal!”.
