In August we shared Sister in Song as our Song of the Day, the latest single from Eamon O’Leary, who, originally from Dublin, Ireland, now resides on New York’s Lower East Side. The single was released on Reveal Records on August 28th and a new album “The Silver Sun” is to follow in 2021 on Reveal Records.
Watch a live porch session of Eamon performing Sister in Song on which he is joined by Elise Leavy who became an essential part of his new album. He tells us:
I got to know Elise Leavy out in Northern California. I found singing with her to be a joy. The parts she came up with, whether simple or otherwise, came to seem essential to these new songs. When she moved to NYC I had her come into Bryce Goggin’s studio, Trout, in Brooklyn. With Benjamin Lazar Davis in attendance, we recorded these nine songs to tape in one afternoon. Benjamin then added all the other sounds.
‘Sister in Song’ takes the form of a series of questions. (I expect many other songs do likewise although at present the only example that comes to mind is the US national anthem – the comparison might end there.) It’s a song of intimate familiarity and shared histories, real or imagined, but also of otherness.
A genuine, poetic folk singer, songwriter-guitarist, Eamon released his acclaimed second album “All Souls” in 2018 and supported the release touring with Sam Amidon (Nonsuch Records) and Glen Hansard (star of the films Once and The Swell Season and frontman in Irish band The Frames).
Eamon has appeared and collaborated with esteemed artists such as Bonnie Prince Billy, Anais Mitchell, Martin Hayes (The Gloaming) Jefferson Hamer, Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive) and his multi- instrumentalist-label mate, Benjamin Lazar Davis (Okkervil River / Cuddle Magic / Joan As Police Woman).
