Scottish duo Twelfth Day – Catriona Price (violin) and Esther Swift (harp) – were among the British artists participating in what is thought to be the world’s largest online musical matchmaking – featuring 96 artists from 14 countries around the globe!
The Global Music Match concept is simple enough – artists from around the world are grouped into international teams of six acts from different countries, and for six weeks across September and October, they ‘introduce’ each act to their respective social media followings over the course of a week – thereby expanding all participating artists’ global fanbases, whilst not able to tour in 2020.
Alongside Twelfth Day are plenty of familiar names including the likes of Edgelarks, Harbottle & Jonas, Jackie Oates, Jon Boden, Lady Nade, Lucy Ward, Sam Carter, The Magpies, The Shackleton Trio, Breabach, Claire Hastings, Elephant Sessions, Fara, Iona Fyfe, Kim Edgar, The Langan Band, RURA, Ryan Young, Siobhan Miller, Skerryvore and more.
Alongside those British folk artists taking part are artists from as far afield as Canada, Australia, Taiwan, the USA and throughout Europe.
Twelfth Day told fans “It’s been a real connector and a treat to get to know them personally as well as their amazing music. We think this is the start of some beautiful friendships!
“The thing we’re most enjoying is chatting with them over Zoom, where we had a proper opportunity to explore musical influences, passions and the depths of the soul!! As well as have a laugh. We have also been working on some special collaborations.”
You can find all the interviews on their YouTube or Facebook page. Also, as part of Global Music Match, they got to make a couple of videos, here is the first of these live videos – Superwoman, featuring Owen Williams (drums) and Andrew Robb (bass). The song features on their Face to Face album.
“Superwoman celebrates the everyday, often unnoticed acts of heroinism – from a mother fighting for the rights of her disabled son, to teenagers standing up for what’s right at school. It is inspired by women and girls of all backgrounds and ages who have acted like super heroes in their own ways. We want to celebrate all of them and thank them for fighting, being brave and carrying on. The pregnant trapeze artist in the video embodies all the superwomen out there!”
