Earlier this year, Sam Sweeney released his new album Unearth Repeat. In March, Sam was our Artist of the Month and you can read our interview with Sam here as well as our album review here.
When talking to Glenn Kimpton about the album he said “I wanted to make an album and a band that can do gigs and make a massive sound with bass and two guitars. I want to say that this is English music and we can do a fantastic festival set and make you very happy. I don’t think there’s been a band since Bellowhead like that and whilst I’m not comparing myself to Bellowhead because this is not a party album like theirs, I’d like to think the spirit of joy is there and people can get up and have a wicked time.”
While Sam had to delay his album tour to May 2021, he, along with guitars of Jack Rutter and Louis Campbell and the double bass of Ben Nicholls, headed to Cecil Sharp House for a live-streamed gig on 27 August. For those that missed it, you can now watch it on-demand via Youtube.
It’s great to see them perform Unearth Repeat live, there’s a lovely chemistry between the band and their passion for the music is very tangible throughout this fantastic concert.
Andy Bell was on hand to provide amazing sound, and Jim Lockey filmed and edited the gig. The opening support slots feature Rosa Pollard Smith, Owen Spafford, Phoebe Harty and Alex Lord.
Please note, that although this gig is free to watch, Sam and his band are reliant on donations, so please consider making a donation via their Paypal link: www.paypal.me/samsweeney123.
Sam is also making a series of videos for people who want to support him on Patreon. Including some exclusive insights into the new album, and for the fiddle players, some tuition videos! More here: https://www.patreon.com/samsweeney
