End of The Day is the new single from West Country-based British singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist duo Rebecca Nelson and Jacob Morrison, best known as Faeland who made quite a splash in 2018 with their debut album All My Swim, which led Neil McFadyen to conclude in his review that as a debut it “does far more than impress, it delights.”
Couched in a warm pastoral acoustic glow, End of the Day is Faeland’s first release since their debut album All My Swim and it delights on many levels, holding strong promise for what’s to come. It’s taken from the duo’s new album, When I Close My Eyes, due in January 2021.
End of The Day features in 23 Walks, a brand-new British film directed by Oscar nominee Paul Morrison, starring Dave Johns (I, Daniel Blake) and Alison Steadman (Gavin and Stacey). End of The Day is being released on the day of the UK film release, 25th September 2020. A fan of Faeland’s music, director Paul Morrison also directed the music video for End of The Day, which combines beautiful fireside cinematography with some tender moments from 23 Walks.
When asked about the theme behind End of The Day, Rebecca explains “the single is a celebration of the seemingly mundane moments of love that we all too easily miss in our busy lives”. As a continuation of the music of the duo’s debut album All My Swim, End of The Day blends folk traditions from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean with singer-songwriter stylings. Haunting, bittersweet vocals float across the mix and there are echoes of stars such as Feist, Gillian Welch and First Aid Kit alongside Faeland’s ever unique approach to songcraft.
End of The Day was recorded as part of Faeland’s sessions for their forthcoming new album at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales. The sessions were engineered by Matt Butler, famed for his work for A-listers such as Paul McCartney, Dire Straits and Pink Floyd. Faeland’s debut album, All My Swim, received airplay across BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Ulster. Faeland were listed as one of 2018’s Albums of the Year by Folk Radio UK and received glowing reviews from Songwriting Magazine, R2 Magazine and Uncut.
Due to the current situation, Faeland are keeping their love of live performance alive by performing free concerts every other Wednesday on Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/faelandmusic/live).
