Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards have shared their music video for Treat You Better, taken from their new album Bitter Better which Danny Neill reviewed for Folk Radio here and who acknowledged this track one as an “absolute scorcher”.
He adds: “‘Treat You Better’ is immediate, hooky and what would have once been thought of as a sure-fire radio hit. This is the lyric that the album title is derived from, as it picks apart a relationship that still feels love but has also seen cynicism and bitterness develop. The singer is literally reprimanding herself with the repeated “I should treat you better” line. Like many a long-term relationship, this is yearning for a time before criticism became normalised. However, in brilliant double-edged fashion, the pop sheen of the production on this tune is rather uplifting.”
There’s no denying the retro feel sheen to this video either which was filmed on 16mm Kodak Vision film from the 90s and was Directed and Edited by Madison Rowley and Produced by Laura herself.
Laura seemed quite chuffed with Danny’s review mentioned above:
We put the songs in order with the hope that people would listen to BITTER BETTER as whole. Thank you @FRUK
