Like many artists that would have been performing at folk festivals now, Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess are missing a string of festival dates, including Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Folk East and many more.
Although you can never replace the buzz you (and the artists) get from a live performance, many are filling that gap with online gigs and videos in an effort to fill that hole and to try and make some kind of living.
For those who may have missed out on their blinding ‘Gold Has Worn Away’ album, which we reviewed here, this trio includes fellow ex-Bellowhead member Pete Flood on drums and Pete Thomas (Jackie Oates, Megan Henwood) on bass alongside Benji on bouzouki/guitar and lead vocals. As Peter Shaw concluded in his review – “This is solid gold stuff from a veteran artist who deserves to come into the spotlight” – this video for the album track Hiring Fair is no exception.
The video was edited by Adventures In Audio.
You can catch Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess (alongside Hannah James Trio, Moonlight Benjamin and The Fitzgeralds) at Virtually Shrewsbury Folk Festival on Saturday, August 29 @ 8pm (M.C will be Steve Knightley).
Many festivals are hosting online events, so make sure you go and visit those festival pages so you don’t miss out – that includes all those mentioned above – if you missed out on Sidmouth last weekend, then you can still watch it on Youtube.
