We’ve grown used to watching Ye Vagabonds – brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn – performing as a duo during their ‘YV at Home’ video series on which they set out to share “the songs we sing at home that rarely make it to the stage.” For their latest, they are joined by Cormac Begley who we recently featured alongside the flying feet Stephanie Keane.
Cormac’s knowledge of traditional Irish music easily rivals his encyclopaedic knowledge of his instruments. A plaintive waltz would effortlessly climb to a jubilant jig or a rousing reel; a stern march evolve into a soothing air; all delivered with seemingly boundless energy, infectious passion and astounding skill. Seeing Cormac Begley play live was a unique, informative, and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

This latest video was a real treat. They tell us:
We’ve spent the best week down in Corca Dhuibhne with our friend Cormac Begley. We’ve been quiet on the video front for the past month as Diarmuid was away, but we hope this makes up for it. We were given this song by Danny Cooper, a great character we met in Scotland last year, who got it from his childhood friend, the great Jeannie Robertson. Not many songs mention both Carlow and Aberdeen!
