Back in January 2020, (in what seems like another lifetime and a different world!) a group of international songwriters headed to The House of Songs in Northwest Arkansas for a 10-day residency. Among them were Dean Owens from Scotland and Oscar Mukherjee from Denmark. One of the songs they created on the residency was Let The Day In, which is now being released as a worldwide digital single. Let The Day In encapsulates a spirit of poignant, fragile positivity, radiating through the beautiful harmonies and intertwining voices.
Recorded by The House of Songs team, the song was then remixed in Denmark, with added instrumentation by two of Denmark’s finest – guitarist Rune Kjeldsen and drummer Peter Dombernowsky. The single is released on Eel Pie Records, on Fri 7th Aug.
Only 23, Oscar Mukherjee, who spent his first years living in Northern California, has already been nominated for a Danish Music Award, has 3 EPs under his belt, and has toured Denmark as a guest artist with acclaimed veteran singer/songwriter Poul Krebs, and is currently working on his full-length debut album with his 4 piece band, Mukherjee. His songs and voice – pure and redolent with emotion – are already drawing attention as one to watch.
Award-winning Scottish singer songwriter Dean Owens is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest troubadours, with fans including Radio 2’s Whispering Bob Harris and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh. He has 7 (official) solo albums under his belt, with the 8th, recorded with desert noir icons Calexico, in preparation for release in 2021. A Best of… album (The Man From Leith) was released to rave reviews in March 2020.
The intense 10 days creating at The House of Songs was followed by official showcases at Folk Alliance International (New Orleans) before a quick hop back across “the pond” to showcase at UK AmericanaFest in London. Then the pandemic struck and the world stood still in shock. The touring stopped. But the music didn’t.
On Fri 7 Aug Dean and Oscar will be reunited virtually with The House of Songs’ Director of Programming, singer songwriter Graham Weber (in Austin), with an intercontinental online gig to swap songs and launch the new single. The show will be a multi-screen and multi-platform, broadcast via Channel 7a on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch.
‘Let The Day In’, is available via Bandcamp and also features on ‘Single File’, The Dean Owens’ singles collection (out 7th Aug): https://deanowens.bandcamp.com/
