Julia Meijer is a Swedish-born singer song-writer and guitarist who is based in Oxford, UK. She is gearing up to release her new single, Skydda Dig (Protect You) via PinDrop Records on 7th August 2020. Skydda Dig is taken from Julia’s forthcoming new EP, The Place Where You Are, due in October 2020. This latest round of releases follows her debut album, Always Awake, released by PinDrop in July 2019.
Originally performed as a quiet solo moment during Julia’s live shows with her band, for the recording Skydda Dig has been embellished by guitarist Andrew Warne’s guitar atmospheres and bass player Jamie Morris taking a turn on keys. Musically Skydda Dig recalls Julia’s more plaintive, atmospheric folk tracks such as previous singles Ocean/England (which we premiered on Folk Radio in 2015). The lyrics reflect the atmosphere of quiet contemplation which are sung by Julia in her native Swedish, as she explains “Skydda Dig is about wanting to protect the ones you love from any harm, even though you know that you can’t”. The lyrics translate as ‘I will protect you as far as my arms can reach, I will wake you up when you have nightmares’.
Julia has appeared at festivals such as Rob da Bank’s Common People, Wilderness and Wood, and performed smash hit shows in Oxford and London. Previous single Train Ticket featured guest keys from pop legend Fyfe Dangerfield and received a track premiere from Clash Music and airplay from luminaries such as Gideon Coe and Lauren Laverne on BBC 6Music. Skydda Dig was recorded with the rest of the forthcoming The Place Where You Are EP during two days of recording at the legendary Total Refreshment Centre studio in London, with maverick genius producer Capitol K at the controls. Skydda Dig was mixed by Capitol K and mastered by Lupo in Berlin.
