We have a second helping of harpists today, the first was courtesy of Ailie Robertson, and now we have Los Angeles-based harpist Mary Lattimore.
When I heard “Sometimes He’s In My Dreams”, the first single from Mary Lattimore’s new album Silver Ladders (out October 9th via Ghostly International) it was enough to convince me that this was an album I was going to savour so I promptly went and pre-ordered the album on vinyl – a limited edition via the good folks at Drift Records in Totnes down here in the South West… It all seemed very fitting seeing as it was recorded in Cornwall with Slowdive’s Neil Halstead and was partly inspired by Cornish tales.
Today she reveals a further single with album opener ‘Pine Trees’ – yes, this is definitely one to savour as well which provides the delicate, shimmering opening to the album.
Mary Lattimore: “Pine Trees is named after a quiet cluster of trees by the sea on the island of Hvar in Croatia. This song was created in Los Angeles at home, but crystallized in the studio with Neil’s help, where he took away layers of the demo that felt unnecessary, bringing out other layers to the front that had been hidden. This song feels like a testament to his producing in that, through more objective listening, a subtler light could shine through that I hadn’t seen in it before.”
‘Silver Ladders’ is out on October 9th via Ghostly International and is available to pre-order here: https://ghostly.ffm.to/mary-lattimore-silver-ladders
