Last year we reviewed Henry parker‘s album Silent Spring, the title inspired by Rachel Carson’s classic book which helped to raise awareness about the environment and the damage being caused to it by man. In his review of the album, Richard Hollingum concluded: “As an album, Silent Spring may be built on and around the folk-infused music of fifty years ago but its message is very much for today. Henry Parker is clearly an excellent guitarist and writer, but he has also not lost sight of the message. He has found his path. Let us walk that way as well. Excellent.”
Henry was on a recent walking holiday in Wasdale, Lake District, with Katie Spencer, another excellent contemporary folk singer-songwriter-guitarist whose intensely captivating album Weather Beaten we reviewed here. While there, they decided to spend some time filming videos amongst the beautiful surroundings of the valley and this is one of those recordings.
Influenced by Dick Gaughan’s version, watch Henry (filmed by Katie), performing the classic folk ballad The Snows They Melt the Soonest. It was filmed in woodland near the foot of Yewbarrow and it’s also our Song of the Day.
