Holland born, London based musician Christof van der Ven has made a video for his track ‘Lucky’ today, taken from his album ‘You Were The Place’ released in 2019. The video is officially released tomorrow to tie-in with #BandcampFriday and premieres today on Folk Radio. Christof’s knows how to tug at those heartstrings, his delivery is so sincere and that voice just grabs you. Simply beautiful, it’s also out Song of the Day.
On the inspiration for the track, Christof comments: There’s a bench in Alexandra Park in North London that I used to sit on when I lived nearby, and I noticed the inscription – “For our beautiful, bold, brilliant Kishori. How lucky are we to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” That plaque ended up being the inspiration for writing this song when I was trying to let go of someone, and there were a lot of bittersweet feelings in what felt like a grieving period.
Alex Cooper, the director of the video says: “Christof and I really loved this idea of a guy unable to move on from his partner. He was stuck in a time warp, as Lucky, for me, is all about moving from a place where you’re sad it’s ended, to being happy it happened. I’ve realised in my own life that, after a while, the person keeping grief around was often me, so this video is about someone finally being abletoletgriefgo.“B utmakingsurewediditinanoftencomicalway, aswebothfeltthatthere’s always room for levity when talking about topics that can often feel very dark and heavy.
Hopefully, everyone can find something in this song that allows them to feel grateful for what they have or had, even when that loss is really painful.
