This week’s Folk Show is primarily music from the past. From the not so distant – field recordings of Tim Van Eyken and Cate Le Bon, The English Acoustic Collective from 2004 (ft. John Dipper, Rob Harbron and Chris Wood), and then further back in time to the merry heyday of Mr. Fox, The Young Tradition (from that brilliant live album Oberlin 1968) and an outlandish rendition of Cuckoo by Kaleidoscope (1969). Plus, we have a double helping from the fantastic Woodbine & Ivy Band including a special mix of ‘Gently Johnny’ which, courtesy of Folk Police Records, featured on Folk Radio many moons ago and was described as “not exactly Woodbine & Ivy unplugged, more Woodbine & Ivy going slightly feral at a free festival somewhere deep in the British countryside in about 1972…“
There’s a thin sprinkling of new offerings including the new single from Ben Harper and Rhiannon Giddens with their cover of Nick Drake’s Black Eyed Dog as well as a new track from Ray Cooper taken from his new EP ‘The Beast’.
Enjoy.
