Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news that Fay Hield is soon to return with her new album Wrackline on 11th September via Topic Records. The album looks at traditional stories involving the ‘otherworld’ of fairies, ghosts and the animal kingdom, the new work explores our emotional responses to the space between their realm and our own. Working through imaginary space to make things real. “We all search to connect with others – we are entranced by those we cannot connect with and find ways to tell their stories to explain our own.”
Today she releases her first album single ‘Hare Spell’ which is accompanied by a spellbinding video. Backed by Rob Harbron, Sam Sweeney, Ben Nicholls and Ewan MacPherson the song and tune conjure an ancient spell to become a hare…it’s totally mesmerising and from an album that looks set to be her best offering to date.
On Hare Spell:
Taken from Isobel Gowdie’s witch trial confessions of 1662 where she shares this spell to become a hare. Following the pattern of finding magic within, the melody comes out of the words, using the corresponding note name letters to build the frame of the tune.
