Taken from his forthcoming new EP ‘Pacific’ (May 22nd via CRC Records), Roo Panes has today released his powerful lead single ‘Listen To The One Who Loves You’.
The accompanying lyric video rolls out like a slowed down beach memory, allowing those lyrics the time to hit home…reflecting the anxiety and confusion of life.
“You’re one of a kind
you grew up singing in the rain
not singing too much nowadays
not getting too much right”
In a noisier world, choices and distractions multiply by the day burying who we once were underneath a flotsam of confusion.
“but it’s one palm in the sun girl
and the other in the cold
and I don’t know which one to hold
no I don’t know which one to hold”
Talking about the song, Roo explains “I was just reflecting on how often our lives become defined by the voices we choose to listen to along the way, so many times I’ve seen people I love in distress because they let other people make their choices for them. So I guess this song is kind of about peer pressure, and the weight of all the voices in our world.”
As ever, Roo manages to lend a huge weight of emotion to the song, an aching longing…
