We were recently introduced to Brighton via Cornwall indie-folk act Lily Hayes via Uncollective, an artist-led platform that supports emerging and underrepresented artists through live events and collaborative projects across the UK.
On May 18th, Lily releases her new single ‘Still Young’, just under 4 minutes of poignant clemency produced by Brighton’s Speedboat. AS well as being one of the most recent artists to work with Uncollective Records they were naturally full of praise for her, and so they should be…
“Lily’s been on our radar since our Falmouth days, and more recently on tour with Tugboat Captain. After releasing her debut single Soft on Me last year (with a B-side remix from GINS), Lily has been slowly but surely building a dedicated following across Brighton, London and the South West – notching up a steady stream of shows with the likes of Holiday Ghosts, The Golden Dregs and ex-Black Tambourines project Buffalo Postcard; as well as being featured on the soundtrack for independent film MUSH, due for release later this year.”
Lily views her music as an on-going project – both writing and performing innately confessional lyric supported by simple electric guitar. Growing up in Cornwall surrounded by folklore and old stories, her songwriting follows her innate interest in language and is inspired by the sincerest recordings of Sybille Baier, Karen Dalton and Angel Olsen. Delicate, yet precise, her songs are hard-hitting and will make you miss home.
Talking about the new single Lily explained:
“‘Still Young’ is a moving exploration of first love and vulnerability in self-assurance. It was recorded by myself and produced and mixed by Johnny and Will Griffiths of Speedboat.”
Her first single ‘Soft on Me’ came out in 2019, following a 2018 UK tour supporting DIY darlings Tugboat Captain, and was received warmly online…this release is sure to follow suit. It’s also our Song of the Day.
