Yesterday, Rowan Rheingans was the latest artist to take part in the Hudson Records Listening Club during which the artist listens and offers insight and commentary to one of their albums, in this case, The Lines We Draw Together.
The video is pre-recorded but the artist joins the session live during its live-stream to answer questions on both Facebook and Youtube, add additional comments and is joined by others involved in the album who do the same.
The Lines We Draw Together was released in August last year and was also one of our Featured Albums of the Month. These listening parties allow listeners to explore albums more deeply, and this was a perfect album to explore.
“In her liner notes, Rheingans also pays tribute to the writers John Berger, Mary Oliver and Etty Hillesum. This combination of the personal and the poetic (which, when explored more deeply in the context of the album’s lyrics, contains within it an implied connection between suffering and beauty) is important: it provides clues to Rheingans’ unique way of working, which itself draws as much from poetry, drama and appreciation of place as it does from songwriting as we know it.” Thomas Blake
I have no doubt that as well as being insightful, it was also a moving experience…as Rowan said “I am yearning for the time we will share music in rooms together again. Remember, music is physical – it is vibrations between people – and we’ll all feel it and hear is again soon. Until then, be as well as you can and try enjoy small moments of beauty.”
This was one of them…
To watch and read all the live comments posted by Rowan and questions asked, go to Folk Radio’s Facebook page here or Hudson Records Youtube Page and Facebook page here. Although there were different audiences on each feed, Rowan answered questions on all three channels.
