Whilst the doors to many venues remain shut some are finding the need to adapt in these strange times. London’s Green Note is one of the most celebrated grassroots venues in our country’s capital which has hosted numerous artists over the years – it’s a small venue with a big heart, driven by an intense passion for music, thanks to founders Immy & Risa who first conceived their idea for the Green Note as teenagers.
They have just announced “Virtually Green Note”: a series of specially-curated, unique online shows that will run every Wednesday and Friday evening at 8pm, starting this Friday 10th April. These shows, which will be streamed live to their website, Facebook and YouTube pages, Each show will feature three specially selected artists, and take an “in the round” format, where the artists take turns in playing songs. The shows will last between 60 and 75 minutes and will be hosted by a member of Green Note staff. So Green Note regulars will also get to see a few familiar faces.
Although they are not selling tickets, you are encouraged to donate via their PayPal link which has been set up so you can donate for each individual show. All the money raised for each show will be divided between the artists playing on that date. They said:
“If you are in a position to, we would like to strongly encourage you to donate – musicians have been hit really hard by recent events, many of them having their upcoming gigs and tours cancelled, as well as one of their main sources of income (and artistic expression) having been taken away, almost overnight. We know that consequently many of them are struggling financially, and would be incredibly grateful for the support of music-loving audiences during this time. We are recommending a suggested donation of £10 per show, but are leaving the amount open for you each to decide what feels do-able for you, as we know that everybody’s situation is different and many of you have also been affected financially by recent events. If you don’t have a PayPal account, but would still like to donate, please email us. If you work for the NHS or are a key worker, we would like to say THANK YOU for what you are doing on behalf of all of us, and would like to invite you to enjoy any of our shows for free.”
