Earlier this year, we saw the release of ‘The Longest Part of The Night‘, the new album from Modern Hinterland. In his review of the album, Mike Davies set the scene: “Again mapping musical territory that takes in folk, indie and Americana, Hornsby describes the new material as delving into the heart of divided modern Britain, fraught with anxiety and uncertainty and how this impacts on people’s relationships.” In the space of just a few months, the weight of those words is far heavier.
They celebrated the album’s releases by sharing a series of acoustic sessions covering songs I’m Not One of the Free / The Lights and Just Be Sitting With You.
For those that enjoyed their acoustic sessions, now’s your chance to here an electric arrangement from a BBC Introducing Live Session affording them some well-deserved extra exposure. Chris Hornsby shared the following on “Right Here In My Heart”:
“A lot of my favourite songs have the inbuilt contrast of being fairly upbeat and bright, but when you dig into them they have some sort of sadness or darkness in them. I think this song manages to grab a little bit of that, as despite it’s jangle and backbeat it’s essentially a song about people and places left behind.
“The Acoustic session we did was a great way for us to re-imagine the songs from The Longest Part of the Night, and showed a different side to what we do. This Electric arrangement is how we usually play live, and how we approached the song in the studio.”
‘The Longest Part of the Night’ is out now on Label Fandango.
