For her latest single ‘Man of Light’, Dutch singer and songwriter Gitta de Ridder attempts to employ a song-based navigational compass for those that sometimes wonder “there must be a place I can go to, that will make me feel truly happy”. Watch the accompanying video below in which we join her during one of her many journeys in her converted truck home.
She shared the following:
“This must be the strangest Spring in my reasonably short lifetime. It must be that way for most of us. When I stop for a moment, and look up at the sun or at the blossoms it gives a moment to come back to myself and to take another step forward. Releasing this tune couldn’t have come at a better moment in some strange ways. I wrote it years ago while I was in Parma, Italy. Inspired by a conversation with a homeless man in London just before I flew out to play some gigs abroad. It got me wondering about the darkness we can carry inside while the sun is shining outside. And about how we are all searching for happiness somewhere beyond the parameters of our own being. Longing for some elusive ‘Man of the Light’ to enlighten us. Perhaps we need him more than ever these days. I just try to remember he’s a part of me, whenever I feel the weight of the world resting heavy on my chest. It helps.
“I love how this video is the perfect diary to the travels I made with my man in our converted old-timer Mercedes-truck home :-) It makes me smile every time I watch it. I hope it’ll bring a smile to you too!
“Much love x Gitta”
‘Man of the Light’ is the second single of Gitta’s third album. This upcoming eight-track album, called ‘To Our Children’, will be released in monthly instalments to give the stories time to unfold. An eclectic collection of songs she recorded during an eight-month adventure in a converted old-timer Mercedes truck, in which she aimed to embrace much of Europe’s musical heritage. This tune enriched with French trumpets and ‘Fromage based’ breakfast chats. With each track, new collaborations enrich the songs that revolve around themes of childhood innocence, self-confidence, forgiveness and togetherness.
