The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris is a ‘book of spells’ that seeks to conjure back the near-lost magic and strangeness of the nature that surrounds us. It transcends age barriers inspiring children and moving adults with its wide appeal.

In 2019 The Lost Words Spell Songs was created as a companion piece for this cultural phenomenon. Brought together by Adam, Caroline & Neil at Folk by the Oak festival, eight incredible musicians and songwriters, the spell singers –
Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Kerry Andrew, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter & Jim Molyneux gathered in Herefordshire alongside The Lost Words artist Jackie Morris, photographer Elly Lucas and record producer Andy Bell to write, collaborate and create the Lost Words Spell Songs album – reviewed here.
