Two-time GRAMMY®-nominated (2006/2014) folk singer, songwriter and activist Eliza Gilkyson is set to release her new album, 2020, next week (April 10th) on Red House Records (Pre-order it here). The songs featured, are a collection of politically charged anthems. While coronavirus may be overshadowing much of the news headlines, this doesn’t change the importance of the upcoming US presidential election around which this album brings focus, designed to motivate, reflect and inspire action during what she believes will be “the most important USA election of our lifetime.”
Eliza very kindly agreed to record a Folk Radio UK session which we are ever so grateful for. She is, like most of us, in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the session was recorded at home. She performs two songs from her new album 2020, opening with “Beautiful World of Mine”, which she describes as “a love letter to the Earth”, adding “we have so much to lose it’s almost not expressible, but I had to try…”. It’s followed by “One More Day”, a plea to the world to give the human race another chance to “get it right” before it’s too late.
Eliza Gilkyson: Folk Radio UK Session
Beautiful World of Mine
One More Day
Gilkyson says “2020” was born out of a visceral impulse to promote unity, commitment and action during this epic and critical showdown of power versus people in the USA and our world today.
“May human decency prevail.”
We will be bringing you more on the album soon.
