Like The Poozies’ last video Soaking in the Bathtub, Fresh Blood was filmed on the beautifully wild Island of Eigg, where the band members have played for hundreds of parties and ceilidhs over the years. More than a little surreal, it displays their usual trademark style of hilarity, jubilance and mischief, and features some very pretty sheep, sparkly aliens, random animals in oilskins, a wise old crone and – talk of the town – an extremely interesting looking stranger!
The song was penned by fiddle and banjo playing Poozie Sarah McFadyen, who was born and raised on the Island of Hoy. She had this to say about it: ‘In an attempt to understand world politics, I always fall back to my island roots. The story of this song is my way of trying to see different view points on the subject of immigration. As our old friend Angus Grant used to say, “Always be kind to strangers”.
The single is available on the band’s website and Bandcamp page, where you can read about their donation of £1 from each sale going to the charity Bloodwise.
As with all musicians at the moment all gigs have been cancelled indefinitely but you can keep up with what’s happening at www.poozies.co.uk, by subscribing to their YouTube channel or following them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
“The Poozies descended on the Isle of Eigg at the beginning of February and brought their musical magic to a secret intergalactic alien party. They timed their trip perfectly – right in the middle of a storm, and a flurry of ferry cancellations, meaning they were trapped on the island for 3 days. What are you gonna do in that time? Drink the island’s supply of booze, and make an insane music video of course. Filmmaker Ruth Barrie has captured the flamboyant, technicolour madness of the band, in all their glory.” Pictish Trail
