Safe Mode is the new single from Mr. Alex Bowman (out on 1st April). As a professional photographer and filmmaker, Bowman’s finely tuned powers of observation have shifted from light into words and music. Over the centuries, many great photographers have sought to present life from a new angle. Those that have stood the test of time like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank, captured magic by offering the viewer of the photo a new perspective. They knew where to stand, how to isolate a subject in a frame and the right moment to release the shutter. In many ways, this is what Bowman has done with Safe Mode…he places himself in amongst the noise and blur of daily life and isolates a moment…a thought…a wish…a point of common connection.
Do you ever feel like a prisoner of the 21st century? Wish you could sever every connection with the flick of a switch like a phone & isolate yourself from the noise of your own life? It might not solve any of your problems, but at least you would have a moments peace. Maybe you should listen to ‘Safe Mode’, the first single from Mr. Alec Bowman’s forthcoming CD / digital album, ‘I Used To Be Sad & Then I Forgot’. It isn’t going to fix your problems, but it might just help boost the signal & help you feel heard.
“I made Safe Mode to be an irreverent & melancholic comment on 21st Century life – imagine if you could just disconnect yourself from all incoming signals. Don’t do it, mind you, it never works, but wouldn’t it be nice? That was my intention with the lyric, to give bad advice and in doing so, expose a wish that most of us will have experienced at some point. I sure have. The video is a pastoral English horrorshow; our hero finds a new home under a tree in a field, spends his time vainly taking selfies like the narcissist in the song and then finds some sort of creepy spiritual redemption in the magnetic lines or strange breath of the earth.”
