Today marks the release Thar Toinn / Seaborne, a new album from Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh. To mark the occasion, Muireann has today shared a new video for Faoiseamh Faoistine, a poem written by the late Danny Sheehy.
Our dearly-departed friend, the poet and boatman Danny Sheehy (Domhnall Mac Síthigh), wrote this poem, which urges the listener to connect to land and sea, and find solace there. In ómós dó agus dá chlann.
Muireann describes the album as a ‘capsule project’, a mini-album of 6 tracks – each of them with reference to the sea or a sea-theme. “I’m obsessed with the ocean and our cultural connection to it. The name Muireann actually means Sea Maiden, there are three mermaids on the Mac Amhlaoibh coat of arms, and I’ve grown up on islands and the west coast of Kerry and get in the sea every chance I get. I’ve really enjoyed bringing my two passions together for this project.”
The supporting cast is a veritable who’s who of traditional music amongst them; Gerry O’Beirne and Dónal O’Connor who will tour the album with Muireann, Niamh Varian-Barry,
