Watch the first in a series of three acoustic sessions from Modern Hinterland featuring music from their latest album The Longest Part of the Night which we reviewed here.
Chris Hornsby sets the scene:
Aside from an undying love of MTV unplugged, we thought if we were going to make some videos it would be cool to do something new with the songs. We stripped them right back to basics and built up new versions using a few of the acoustic instruments we had kicking around our flats. We talked Andy Willsher into squeezing all of his Camera’s into a front room and spent an afternoon annoying the neighbours.
Of “The Lights” he says:
This is a pretty dark song that lays out three different stages of grief and on the record it’s also a fairly big song, lots of guitars and energy. I think we found a whole different vibe for this arrangement – It swings a bit more than the album version and it’s kicked its shoes off. So, it is the same song, just after a couple of glasses of wine.
‘The Longest Part of the Night’ is out now on Label Fandango.
