Taken from his new album ‘I LIke Your Taste in Music’ Ian Carr has just shared a new live video of him performing ‘Climber’ with Laura Wilkie. The album features a band of musicians he has befriended over the years including his wife Maria Jonsson. For anyone that remembers his 2015 album Who He? there are plenty of familiar names including Laura who Ian previously met at a jam in Glasgow. If you like your folk music there’s a strong chance that if you haven’t his last solo release than you will have an album with his name in the liner notes – he has worked with many acclaimed artists including Kathryn Tickell, Kate Rusby, Eddi Reader, Kris Drever and others.
There’s a playfulness that comes across when Ian plays, just watch Laura’s face in this video which was filmed by Martin Forry.
On Climber, Ian says “Climber (formerly known as Pisspod after I dropped my 125 GB iPod classic down the toilet on a train) is an instrumental about my daughter who has inherited her Grandmas love of rock climbing, particularly in North Wales.”
As to the album title…according to the press release, it was at the release concert for the previously mentioned Who He? that they played the title track “I Like Your Taste In Music”. Ian had the riff for years, and couldn’t stop playing it, soon becoming the tune that he played to check the sound on his guitar before gigs. But it needed words and one day in a hotel room in Skelleftea in Northern Sweden a man appeared and said “Thou Shalt Sing I Trust Your Taste In Men” Ian said “I cannot sing that” and Maria, who was also in the room said “you could sing I Like Your Taste In Music” And thus it was!
‘I LIke Your Taste in Music’ is available on the 28th Feb 2020 on Reveal Records/Dalakollektivet Records and features Maria Jonsson, Laura Wilkie, Thomas Gibbs, Staffan Lindfors, Steph Geremia, Simon Thoumire, Gustav Ljunggren.
