The New Mexico-raised, NYC-based artist Kate Vargas last featured on Folk Radio back in 2016 when we premiered her video for Call Back the Dogs from her “Strangeclaw” album. Last year she released “For The Wolfish & Wandering” and is looking crowdfund her next.
She has launched a Kickstarter campaign in the intro for which she has revealed that it was not until her last album that she felt she had begun to settle into that sound she calls junkyard folk…
“I feel like I only just started to settle into that sound with my last album, For The Wolfish & Wandering. This is what we’ve been affectionately referring to as junkyard folk. I’m eager to lean into that more with this next release. I’ll be working with producer Charles Newman again and my good friend and percussionist, Granville Mullings Jr. The Reckless Daughters will make an appearance. So will Eric McFadden. Along with many other supreme talents.”
For those unsure of what that junkyard folk sound is, here she is performing “7 Inches” from her last album For The Wolfish & Wandering.
Her Kickstarter campaign has only just launched, she has packed houses from Ireland’s Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival to The Troubadour in London, The Mansion on O Street in Washington D.C. to New York’s Bowery Electric so please get on board, the results will be worth it, be part of something bigger and support independent music.
